Over the last few months I’ve discovered a new love for interior design.
After acting as Interior Designer for myself and Sascha’s first home I wanted to share all my favourite cosy corners and the furniture they contain. I can be quite particular when it comes to the clothes I wear and this has also crept in to the way I chose to decorate, absolutely loving some furniture but then being offended by other almost identical pieces (Anyone else? Just me?). But I think the precision is so necessary when it comes to your home since it’s where you spend most of your time, it needs to be a place you love and love it I certainly do!
The vibe we’re going for is minimalist, modern, fun – there’s still some finishing touches to do but I’m so pleased with it so far, take a look around!
Leaf Wall Print – Berrys and Grey / Houseplant – Homebase / Spotlight Lamp – Homebase / Matte Blue Velvet Sofa – Next / Mustard Knitted Throw – Dunelm / Pineapple Foil Print Cushion – Dunelm
Let’s start with the living room; I loooove this little corner so much! Especially in the evenings, turning the lamp on transforms it in to a such a cosy little spot. I had the exact style and fabric in mind when sofa shopping which made it more difficult than it needed to be, but I was so happy when I found this baby online from Next. It’s perfect despite the 8 week wait,
and you can regularly find me here in the evenings chilling out, planning blogs. The lamp was an absolute bargain from Homebase and ties in with our black side table and Acapulco chair like a dream. My lovely friends gifted us a Berrys and Grey voucher which is where we got this MA-HOO-SIVE leaf print, bringing some fun and colour in to the room, it’s a real focal point.
Chairs – P&N Homewares / Copper Light Shade – Dunelm
The fireplace in the dining room was probably the thing which attracted me to the house in the first place. We’ve already started lighting it and enjoying the snug atmosphere, especially during the festive period! I’m not a fan of a lot of wood furniture in a house so we decided to paint the mantelpiece black which really stands out next to the white walls.
My lovely Nannie had this old dining table going spare so we opted for a bit of upcycling; we stained the top a darker wood and painted the bottom using and off-white chalk paint and then roughed it up with sand paper – very shabby chic!
Drinks Cabinet – Wayfair / Yucca Houseplant – Homebase / Selection of Prints – Etsy, Desenio and our airbnb host!
We chose a selection of prints for above the fireplace to add some fun. The tree box, dog and crazy octopus smoking lady were all bought from our Airbnb host when we were in Italy earlier this year, I love that although they’re prints they are still somewhat original and not many people will have them! The ‘hangry’.
print is from Etsy and the other three are from Desenio.co.uk which has a huge selection. We had been after a drinks cabinet for this corner for a while, but thanks to me being fussy it took forever to find one. I like the industrial feel of this one, all it needs now is a few more bottles to fill it up…
Ladder Shelves – Dunelm / Copper Geometric Lamp – Primark
These ladder shelves are everywhere at the minute, they’re perfect for making a boring corner in to an aesthetically pleasing space with storage. I actually found these ones in the bathroom section of Dunelm, but I think they work here too.
White Desk – Ikea / Grey Office Chair – Ikea / Wall Mounted Lamp – Ikea / Wall Grid – Homebase
Can you tell I love Ikea?
I wanted this room to be pretty minimal hence the white desk and compact grey chair which matches the corner sofa behind it. This wall grid is my favourite feature; like a fancy cork board, I’d been after one ever since stumbling across a copper version on Pinterest but surprisingly few places sell them. I picked this one up from the gardening section of Homebase but hey, it looks great on the wall!
Grey Corner Sofa – Ikea / Throws – Primark / Cushions – Dunelm, ASDA & Wilko / Zebra Print Rug – Wayfair
The spare room acts as an office come guest bedroom so it was important that we had a sofa bed to accommodate. We went for a very plain, inoffensive sofa so we could tart it up with cushions and throws to make it both comfy and ‘kitten-proof’! I love the guitar feature wall as an alternative to artwork or prints for a more eclectic vibe.
Mirror – The Range / Pink Fluffy Rug – Dunelm
This is the most perfect selfie/OOTD mirror, but that’s not the only reason we got it – honest! I loved the idea of having a massive lean to mirror to fill wall space but also to open up the room and make it brighter and lighter.
Shelf with Drawers – Ikea / Teal Stool – Maison Du Monde
This shelving unit was another Pinterest find! We didn’t have room for a full on dressing table so I wanted something small and compact which would fit in our ensuite. I use the drawers to keep my makeup tidy and out of sight and sit here every morning on this pretty luxurious stool to put my face on!
There’s still so much more we can do, and so much more wall space to fill, so if any of you have any great interior ideas then let me know – I would love to hear them.
As much as I love house shopping, I cannot wait until I can start spending my disposable income on clothes again…
