The art of summer dressing is something I’m not very good at to put it mildly.
But if there’s one thing I’m sold on this summer it’s flatforms. Of any variety – sandals, trainers, espadrilles. Gimme flatforms all day day, everyday. Last year it was all about mules but now I feel like soles just keep getting thicker and thicker, so much so I almost turn my nose up at anything less than a few cm in height when it comes to footwear.
They’re the most flattering chunky shoe you’ll ever own. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again; I love anything chunky, boxy, bulky. That masculine type stye. Because flatforms by their very nature are so thick, they make you that little bit taller (I’m always in need of help in that department!) and thanks to the chunkiness they make your legs look slimmer without having to brave the sheer uncomfortableness (is that a word? Pages seems to think so so I’m going with it) of heels! They’re casual enough to be worn every day, but I’ve also swapped out my usual barely there heels for these on a night out and my feet certainly thanked me for it the next morning!
So hooray for the warmer weather and being able to put my winter boots in storage, but having to make sure my toe nails are painted day in day out is something I have not been missing…
And also, we know flatforms look fab but these shoes in particular should come with a warning. A ‘it’s like walking on a brick’ warning. Ha ok ok no they’re not THAT bad and I’ve worn them in sufficiently to get past the awkward ‘my feet hurt but I’m determined to wear these’ phase and they’re actually pretty darn comfy now thank god because I’m not prepared to sacrifice comfort for style. The only thing I’m yet to do in them is drive because I have this irrational fear that I won’t be able to feel the pedals so I guess it’s a whole lot more of wearing trainers and then changing in to these when I get to my destination for me (just me?).
If like me you’re a fan of chunky sandals of the flatform variety then you’re in luck! I’ve done then hard work for you and found some of the best picks (IMO!) from the high street and online stores for you to have a little scroll through. My next purchase is definitely going to be some with an espadrille style bottom, perfect for wearing on holiday with cute little tea dresses. Closely followed by the Boohoo coloured babies but red or lilac I can’t decide??? And I certainly can’t justify both! And ohhh the ASOS bow front numbers are so so cute, but I’m not sure that nude satin material will compliment my paper white legs! Which are your favourite?
