Happy November and hellooooo cosy, dark A/W nights! Is anyone else ridiculously excited about this time of year? I’m well aware that the clocks going back is not renowned for being a particularly exciting period, some may even call it ‘depressing’ but not me. For me it signals the start of the Christmas festivities and is nothing but an excuse to get home from work, put on your PJ’s and get under a blanket. I may even treat myself to a baileys hot chocolate if I’m feeling fancy!
And on the topic of festive hot drinks, I definitely was THAT person who took a special trip to Costa on the 1st to get my hands on their new Christmas drinks. Let’s just say, gingerbread and cream latte OH MYYYY! Would it be wrong to spend all of my wages in Costa?
Anyway back to what I’m actually here to chat about; blazers and my love of them.
I feel like everyone has gone a bit blazer crazy this year and it all started with the checked variety, most frequently worn with matching check trousers or skirt which is a look I am (regrettably) yet to invest in. I did get my hands on a very autumnal blazer from New Look though which I’ve worn alooooot over on my Instagram, and just my luck it went swiftly in to the sale a few weeks after I bought it (how annoying is it when that happens!?).
But my most recent blazer purchase and probably my all time favourite is this H&M pinstripe number! I actually fell upon this and the matching suit trousers in the H&M sale (winner!) and thought how perfect it would be for my work’s 1920’s themed Christmas party, so as you can imagine the risk of leaving it behind and facing a ‘nothing to wear’ drama was too much. I practically sprinted to the till.
I’m SO not a sparkly, tassel dress type of gal so 1920’s ganster it is for me, and after hours of searching online for something similar and finding nothing for under £80, I think I bagged myself bargain! And on that note, Stacey Dooley’s documentary on fast fashion got me thinking like it did everyone else and I’m making a conscious effort to buy more timeless investment pieces which I can dress up and down and wear over and over again which this definitely is!
I’ve gone full 360 from avoiding wearing my blazer at all costs when at school to choosing to spend my money on a new blazer at every opportunity! Blazers are fast becoming a cult buy and it’s probably got something to do with the fact that they make you feel 100 x cooler (just me?) and are the absolute key to that polished look. There is something satisfyingly streamlined about wearing a blazer over a high neck top – and if it’s a high neck top of the animal print kind then even better – and it’s an extra layer to embrace now we move in to the colder months. Next time I’m going to try sticking a belt around this to add a bit of extra interest!
Next on my list is one of the camel corduroy variety, and then to slowly make my way through these picks… Which is your fave?
