…and the most fabulous midi dress.
We are hours away from welcoming in the New Year, I’m still staring lovingly at all the shiny new things Christmas brought in to my life (there’s nothing wrong with being a bit materialistic every now and again!) and although I find ‘New Year’ posts a little cliche, here I am sitting down to write one myself. January is traditionally bit of a ‘bleurgh’ month but I really don’t see it that way; I love fresh starts, they bring about new ideas and opportunities and although historically I’ve not been big on making resolutions, what I do like is motivating myself to make improvements.
So of course I have all the usuals like eat better, commit more time to fitness and spend more time with my number 1’s, but this year I have a little internet baby to nurture and (hopefully) grow bringing about a whole host of new goals. So that being said, I wanted to put this post together to document my blogging resolutions for 2018, and that way I might actually stick to them.
- Improve my editing skills – I am so lucky to have a media fanatic as a boyfriend who helps me when I need it, but I definitely want to be more independent when it comes to editing my photos. Before starting this blog I hadn’t even heard of Lightroom, but by the end of 2018 I vow be an expert.
- Improve my writing skills – Bloggers always seem to say that they have a passion for writing. My passion is less for writing (although I am starting to really enjoy it), my passion is for clothes and how to style them so I’m well aware that words are my weakness. This year I’m going to invest some time to change that.
- Improve my posing skills – So it seems that I have a lot of skills to improve upon! One might assume that if you’re a blogger you’re somewhat photogenic or enjoy having your photo taken at the very least, but there is nothing I find more cringe than posing in public and on average it takes around 100 photos to find just 15 to use in a blog post. I certainly need help on working those angles.
- Be more daring when it comes to fashion – I want to try new things, stop wearing the same jeans and jumper combo, explore new brands, wear more colour, experiment with accessories, you name it I want to do it! It’s quite difficult to achieve this when working a 9-5 and needing to look somewhat smart, but 2018 will be the year of going ‘all out’ during the weekend.
Of course I’ve incorporated one of my fave new outfits in to this post, because that’s the real reason people view blogs right?
This one probably doesn’t tick off the ‘be more daring when it comes to fashion’ resolution but I love it all the same, and midi dresses aren’t something I tend to wear so it is a bit different for me (I’m a mini dress gal at heart!). I actually full on copied this look from my lovely friend Michaela who I saw sporting this dress a couple of months back and from then on I needed it in my life. I think there’s somewhat of a pressure to be individual and unique when it comes to fashion – and fashion blogging in particular – but I’m all for taking inspiration from others whether that be someone you see in the street, on Instagram (which is the usual culprit) or in this case a good friend!
So the dress is from Nobody’s Child and I know I’m starting to sound like a broken record when it comes to NC but my god they can do no wrong. It’s a really lightweight material which makes it super easy and comfortable to wear, the tie detailing at the front and on the sleeves is my favourite part and I love the split up the front; I don’t think I would be able to walk in it if it wasn’t for the split. I wanted to add a bit of height to prevent looking too drowned by material so I paired it with my trusty Zara zip front boots. I wore this on boxing day to a family get together so I went for more of a girly vibe, but you could also grunge it up a bit by slinging on some fishnets and some chunky, biker boots.
This is one of those outfits that you instantly feel fab wearing, I’ve been doing a lot of swishing about the house in it so you can expect to see it a lot more throughout A/W but also S/S too (this with flatform sandals = yaaaaaas).
Happy New Year everyone, I hope you have a good one this evening what ever you have planned. We’ve got seven guests staying over in our two bed house so go figure how that’s going to pan out – it’s certainly going to be a memorable one! Let me know what your 2018 goals are, what you think of mine and how you would style this outfit, I would love to know.
