Is there any better reason to treat yourself to a good ole’ pamper than jetting off on a sunny summer holiday?!
No, there is not and with Lisbon fast approaching (4 days for me whilst I write this, TODAY as you’re reading it!) I’m going to share with you my holiday beauty run down which is less of a ‘pamper evening’ and more of a ‘pamper week’.
First thing’s first, nails! One thing I cannot stand in life is chipped nails (I think it’s a neatness thing, but chipped nail varnish irritates me so much I cannot cope) and so a gel mani is an absolute must, not just when I’m jetting off abroad but all year round – it’s probably the one beauty treatment I actually stick to religiously. I’m a neutrals and darks kind of gal when it comes to my nails, those garish neon ‘summer holiday’ colours look ridiculous on me, so I went for a mushroom tone to prevent any outfit clashing situations!
I did book in for a gel pedi as well as a little holiday treat since it’s not something I would usually do, but my appointment got cancelled TWICE so I gave up in the end. Much unlike my nails which just chip like a b***** with normal varnish, I find that my toes stay pretty neat even when I do them myself so no biggie (speaking of which, need to remember to re-do mine before I go!).
Next up on the to-do list is sorting the facial hair situation and I don’t mean moustaches (I’ve never had that problem thankfully!), no I mean eye brows and eye lashes. There’s so many options when it comes to this… threading, dying, semi-permanent make-up, extensions, falsies etccc but I choose the simplest and laziest of them all! I tend to dye my brows myself all year round with an Eyelure kit to make them that bit more defined which is DEFINITELY needed, especially when holidaying in a hot country where you’re not going to be wanting to wear a full face of makeup throughout the day.
Moving on to lashes, my preferred treatment is a lash lift and tint (or LVL) which again just helps make your eyelashes stand out a bit more during those no-makeup days. I’m not a fan of eyelash extensions, I feel like they would really irritate me and anything to do with eyes I’m gone so it’s a no no from me. I don’t even think I’d be able to sit through the appointment of having them applied!
But probably the most important thing I do in terms of beauty prep before going away is to fake tan, which might seem a bit counter-intuitive but if you’ve read my previous blog ‘On Being The Pale Friend’ then you’ll know why. I think I must be the only person who goes on holiday looking more tanned than they do on they way back! My usual tanning routine of exfoliating and moisturising goes here, I use the Cocoa Brown Night & Day tan which is my tanning saviour and has been for the last few years (I’m constantly worried that they’re going to discontinue it so please keep buying it!). I read that plane journeys can dry your skin out which can make your tan fade quicker so there was no option but to double up and apply twice before leaving!
I’ve also had a little hair choppy although not intentionally in preparation for holiday – for the last few weeks I’ve been increasingly bored with the state of my mop so it made sense to squeeze in an appointment before jetting off (I’m hoping to shoot some content over is Lisbon so fresh hair is always welcome!).
Let me know what your pre-holiday pampering looks like if your going away this year!
