I thought it was about time for another fun, fashion-led post and this Mae Blouse from Éimí Boutique arrived right in time to be the inspiration behind it!
I’m not overly ‘girly’ when it comes to dressing – I’m all for baggy fit jeans, slogan tees and trainers – but frills have had a massive resurgence recently and I’m certain I can dig deep enough to find my inner ‘girly girl’ to pull them off. And by frills I don’t just mean the odd extra bit of material added to a sleeve here and there, I mean frills and ruffles and peplum hems and pleats. This is the complete opposite to the phrase ‘no frills’ – this is actively seeking everything and anything with frills on to dress myself in because frills are everything right now, the bigger the better.
Hence my love for this frill hem beauty, in a shade of burgundy which is right up my street.
For ages I shied away from Burgundy because it’s the colour of the dreaded high school blazer, and it brings back memories of being forced to wear it whatever the weather for most months of the year until ‘shirt sleeve order’ come May/June time. Also, ‘shirt sleeve order’? What were we in the army?!
Anyway back to the top. It’s really fun and floaty and feminine which I love. Very cliché but this style and shape of top is so so versatile, making it suitable for just about any occasion and is the perfect desk to date night piece. Work, yes. Dinner, yes (hides any unwanted ‘food baby’ situations). Drinks, yes. And as well as the flattering shape, the polka dots tick all the current trend boxes. This is the type of thing I imagine myself wearing out to afternoon tea, especially in the summer with a denim midi skirt and some mules – I wish I could have styled it that way for you here but there was NO WAY I was getting my legs out in these arctic weather conditions (hence the indoor shots!), no doubt I’ll restyle it when the sun does come out and it will definitely be coming with me to Lisbon so keep your eyes peeled for that!
What I would say with this shape of top is that I find a standard bra is sometimes a bit bulky underneath so I normally opt for a lace bralet kind of situation – plus since the top is quite low cut, that way it doesn’t really matter if it shows.
I’ve paired the blouse with my H&M pleather trousers [tip of the day: do not wear these around cats, Jackson decided to use my leg as a scratch post when I wore my first pair of these and ruined them, luckily they were only £7 and I like them so much it was worth the re-purchase!] which you’re probably sick to death of but I’m going through a bit of a ‘I hate skinny jeans’ stage. This probably has something to do with the fact that all this week I’ve lived in the same pair of skinny bloody jeans tucked in to the same biker boots purely out of necessity (i.e. not getting frostbite) rather than fashion.
Worst decision of the year award goes to me for booking this week off work with the view of doing lots of lovely things, when in reality I’ve been snowed in most days because I’m a real wuss when it comes to driving in the snow. So instead, this week has consisted of walking in to Norwich and finding warmth in coffee shops, painting a whole wall in our living room with blackboard paint because we thought it would look cool at 11pm the night before, and eating waaaay too much food which is either bad or good depending on how you look at it!
Thanks so so much to the lovely people at Éimí Boutique for sending this my way – online shopping is one of my favourite things to do and I love discovering new sites, especially smaller local ones, it just makes shopping feel a lot more special! Sometimes I feel that with these lesser known brands you don’t know what to expect (fit and quality wise), but I can’t recommend these enough. The team have been very generous and created a 15% off discount code for you all to use (it’s VERY affordable anyway so this makes everything an absolute steal!) which is ‘wearsrosie15’, I’ve already got my eye on some cute smock tops ready for Lisbon in July and there are some incredible trainers which I’ve already purchased!
Tag me on Instagram and let me know what you’ve bought – happy shopping!
