A few weeks back I asked over on Instagram if anyone had any denim recommendations – specifically those of the mid wash, straight leg variety – and a few of you very kindly told me about the oh so glorious (my new loves) Topshop Straight Leg Jeans. I was also recommended the Levis Wedgie Fit Jeans which look just as heavenly, but I mean, if I can save money I will so I opted for the £40 Topshop pair over the £85 Levis and they did not disappoint.
I quite literally put them on for the first time and never wanted to take them off. You know when you find a pair of jeans that fit nice around the bum region and then skim down your legs and finish just above the ankles – these are it! I thought I should probably shout about these a bit more because I had never heard of them and I’m an avid Topshop fan – the ‘I don’t go more than a week without entering Topshop’ type of fan – so I don’t know if I’m late to the party or what but now I’ve found them they’re going to be my new staple denim for sure.
Everyone knows about the Joni jeans and the Jamie jeans, but why is no one raving about the Topshop Straight Leg jeans?
I’m well and truly over the skinny jean phase. First it was leggings that got the boot and who remembers the horrendously unflattering ‘jeggings’?, but now I see skinny jeans as some what the same – I find them so uninspiring and plain. I’d much rather wear tights and a skirt if I was going for that streamlined, figure hugging kind of look and thats saying something for me because I’m not the biggest tight advocate to say the least. So it’s no surprise that denim of the straight leg variety has taken over my previously fool-proof skinnies for the jean hierarchy top spot.
I find them SO much more flattering since they’re almost a more mature shape, and also I tend to find them just a whole lot easier to style which is what the lazy girl in me is all about. Take this outfit for instance, if I were wearing this slogan tee with a pair of skinny jeans it would probably not be an outfit I would think to shoot and document, instead it would feel kind of lazy and half-arsed but these jeans just elevate it in to something I bit more ‘fashun’.
They’re the smarter alternative to the ‘mom jean’ which can look very ‘I have 5 kids and have no time to shower let alone think about what to wear each morning’ – nothing against mom jeans either by the way, I love channelling my inner 90’s mum/Rachel from Friends every now and again but in general the look I prefer to go for is more smart/casual vibes as opposed to full on caj.
You can’t fault the quality of Topshop denim, for a while I had been buying jeans from Zara which were probably around the £20-£30 mark but there really is a quite obvious difference quality-wise so you get what you pay for. And you’ll also be pleased to know that they have withstood the kitten test so far; no plucks, no holes and no pulling out the treads despite their best efforts!
My other current fashion obsession is that of the glorious sock boot so anything that looks good paired with said sock boots is an instant yes from me. Of course, the raw hem of these jeans alongside the tightness of sock boots is a match made in heaven (should have worn some here really, doh!).
Now can I take a pair in every colour please?
