Nothing reminds me of early 2010’s fashion more than bodycon dresses. That ’18 year old at a club’ vibe (I’m not judging, I’ve been there and still have the odd bodycon number in my wardrobe now!) which is most certainly NOT for the body conscious.
I have such a love hate relationship with those ‘second skin’ type tight clothes; most of them look weird on no matter how skinny you are (it’s just what they do) but there’s something flattering about that ‘no fuss’ feel. No bunched up fabric where you’ve tried to tuck your shirt in to your trousers, no uncomfortable waist band digging in to your stomach all day. So they’re doing something right!
I picked up this in-your-face bright orange bardot style babyyyy from the Topshop sale last week (have I gone on about the Topshop sale enough?! It’s good. Happy shopping!) especially for Lisbon and I really REALLY love it, so much more than I thought I would. Unlike other bodycon styles I’ve tried previous, it doesn’t put you through a 30 minute whole body workout just to get in to it thanks to the super stretchy fabric (and let’s be honest nobody wants to get dolled up for a night out then get sweaty squeezing in to their outfit so winner, winner). Likewise it doesn’t have me shuffling like a penguin which bodycon pieces have a tendency to do so hooray for that!
Fashion faux pas are a very real possibility here with the dreaded VPL underwear dilemma being top of the list, but because this isn’t a super thin fabric AND it’s textured you don’t have to worry about that. Instead you should be weighing up whether this is a suitable ‘meal out’ outfit… thoughts? I love food too much and hate being uncomfortable so to prevent any pesky food baby situations I’d normally opt for a something a bit more ‘roomy’ shall we say, HOWEVERRRRR I took this for a bit of a test run yesterday and wore it out for date night which of course consisted of a starter, main AND dessert! Embrace the food baby, I say. Although my god this rides up like a goodun’ and the constant need to pull it down before I flashed everyone was pretty frustrating, so maybe this is only suitable for a dinner and drinks situation rather than a wander around town number!
I’m definitely more of a relaxed fit type of gal but it’s good to get out of your fashion comfort zone once in a while so I’m going to embrace the bodycon style this summer!
