Whilst everyone is sulking about the end of summer I’m over here looking lovingly in to the next few months of pumpkin spiced lattes (so basic), over the knee boots and roasting marshmallows on bonfires (never actually done that, but I like the sound of it)! Hiya Autumn, you snug cosy babe! Finally I can ditch the fake tan and hide my pale skin under layers of fluffy jumpers, scarves, gloves – you name it I’m buying it.
I’m no summer party-pooper, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the days of beer gardens after work and eating Fabs after every meal BUT I will not miss that annoying mark my sunglasses make on my nose after wearing them for more than 2 minutes or how unbearably hot my black aircon-less car gets OR wasps, don’t even get me started on the wasps!
Autumn however is a bit of me; cosy nights in, baileys hot chocolate and the clothessss!
Oh the clothes, come at me comfy cosies! So I thought I’d run through some of my Autumn essentials which pretty much don’t change year on year, and since I’m utterly pants with keeping up with what’s ‘in’ runway wise these are not A/W18 trends, but instead my go-to transitional styles I cannot live without when the weather starts to turn.
First up is anything featuring check, tweed, gingham and if it’s in suit form then even better! Can we just take a moment to appreciate all of the check skirt and blazer combo’s on the high street right about now, I don’t own one myself but I sure as hell am going to be making a purchase soon (there’s just SO many to choose from!) My personal fave stores for this style are Topshop and New Look, NL probably just edges it because they are so so affordable which is 100% what you want from a style which is so ‘out there’.
Next is one that’s less confined to Autumn and one I wear all year round but it’s a good’n all the same… animal print! There’s something very bold and powerful about wearing animal print. My go to is that of the leopard variety, but to mix up the classic I’m trying to experiment with bigger prints and different colours (hiya red and black leopard print!) as well as textures. I’m yet to try the head to toe animal print situation and maybe that’s a trend I’ll admire from afar (not sure I’m brave enough for that! Although I do have leopard print shoes, skirt and jacket so I could give it a whirl!). And let’s not forget that Zebra print is back in a BIG way.
Is there anything more Autumnal than faux fur????
No, there is not! I just want to live in this jacket until next summer, it’s like wearing a hug. What’s more my cats think I’m a walking bed when I wear this and want to snug me 24/7, I challenge you to find a better reason to wear faux fur! But seriously, I’m like a magpie but instead of being attracted to shiny things I have to touch every fluffy thing I see so if anyone wants me you’ll find me in the jacket section caressing teddy bear coats! Also, thoughts on those faux fur bags? I kind of think they are the grossest things I’ve ever seen but I kind of love them…
And lastly (and one that is probably more of a A/W18 ‘trend’ and less of a personal staple) is mustards, rusts, browns, oranges and any other colour that falls in to that ‘Autumnal’ spectrum. I must admit I don’t I own anything brown, rust yes, orange yes, but brown has never really done it for me until my Instagram became littered with clothing of the brown variety (hence I’m feeling it must be ‘in’ this season?!) and now I’m converted! I’m feeling a brown snuggly knitted jumper may be on the cards???
This outfit is Autumn epitomized so here’s to hoping the weather doesn’t drop too dramatically so I can continue to rock bare legs (tights are the devil and ruin everything!) in this red gingham baby!
